Brewaucracy lost a good friend in 2014. Colin Palmer was a well known personality in the Hamilton and Auckland beer scene, and was a constant presence at almost any beer related event, along with his partner Stephen. When Colin passed away, I knew we needed a beer to honour his memory.
Colin loved big hop-forward beers. Don't get me wrong, Colin loved ALL beers, especially the beer that was coming next. But hops were his thing. At Brewaucracy, we tend to leave the hop bombs to other great NZ breweries. Also, I wanted to brew a beer with wide appeal, so people would drink it long term, and thus keep Colin's memory alive via his favourite medium - beer.
Palmer's Golden Handshake is our send-off to our mate. It's a gentle easy-drinking Golden Ale, hopped with Crystal and East Kent Goldings. A delicate, biscuit-like malt profile gives way to a slightly fruity hop profile. Hints of peaches and nectarines, along with a slightly floral note linger just long enough to demand another sip.
Cheers Colin. We'll miss you.
